Therapy for Women & Gender Non-Binary Individuals in Downtown Detroit

Individual Therapy in Detroit, Michigan

You don’t have to continue to feel lonely, overwhelmed, and insecure. I can help you develop clarity, confidence, and self- compassion, which organically lead to increased intimacy and stability in your relationships. Amity Detroit Counseling offers individual counseling services for women and gender non-binary clients like you.

Who You Are

You’re kind, successful, and bright. You’ve talked to your friends about how you’re feeling, but it still feels like there’s more to say even if you’re not exactly sure what that might be. You want to discover more about what’s holding you back from fulfilling intimacy. You want to feel confident, connected, and at ease in your relationships. You want to trust that your truest sense of self will be honored if you let someone in.

You’re so much more than your relationship status, but sometimes it feels like what’s happening in your personal life overshadows what’s happening in any other area. It can feel like your worries about dating and intimacy dictate how you feel about yourself and your day to day mood. You don’t want to seem like a cliche, but it is painful to spend so much time thinking about your partner, your ex, or the lack thereof.

Support for Insecurities

You’re struggling to feel confident in intimate relationships. You’re still feeling hurt and confused by past relational experiences. You might have had some trauma in your past, but you’re not exactly sure how it connects to what you’re feeling now.

There is nothing wrong with you. You do not need to lose weight or change your appearance to feel better about yourself. Instead, you might need some support in reconnecting with yourself internally and attending to the painful experiences that have led to feeling so convinced that there might be something intrinsically wrong with you.

Deepening Intimacy

The parts of yourself you’re most afraid to show to people around you just might hold the key to feeling freedom and connection. Together, we can gently work towards unpacking the shame and feeling more comfortable with gradually taking risks in intimacy. This can look like having the conversations you’re afraid to have, telling the stories you’re hoping people don’t ask about, or making peace with the memories you work hard to forget.

In our individual counseling, we take things at your pace. While I’m always listening for opportunities to connect to something deeper, it’s equally important that I don’t push you into talking about too much too soon. The beauty of therapy is that your mind will reveal what we need to know as you’re ready.

My Approach

As a therapist in Detroit, I work with women and gender non-binary clients who are dynamic, insightful, and gifted in so many ways but are still struggling to feel like they can really be themselves. Together, we dig deep into learning where their patterns are coming from and which parts need care and attention. The more we understand where their beliefs and fears come from, the more power my clients feel in embodying their truest selves.

+ How Therapy Can Help You

It might feel frivolous to invest the time and money into counseling when you already have a decent support network. You might feel like there’s no way you could need ongoing therapy when so many parts of your life are going so well. As a therapist in Detroit, I work with many young professionals who find that their strengths in building community and self-reflection aide the therapeutic process greatly.

You can show up authentically in relationships, practicing both more vulnerability and the discernment to know when you need more boundaries. When I imagine my clients showing up authentically in relationships, I imagine them taking open-hearted risks, feeling confident in their bodies and sexuality, and knowing that they can choose when they want to be vulnerable. There is power in knowing who are and in knowing how to share yourself with those you care about most. There is no amount of success in the world that can replace the power of human connection.

You deserve a space to explore which pieces of past painful experiences are sticking with you, which harmful messages from the culture at large have become a part of your inner world, and where the deeply embedded ideas about your own self worth have come from. None of us are immune to the influences of our families, childhood, and most significant relationships. You may have a general idea of which experiences have most hurt you — a painful breakup, a rollercoaster relationship, or something as serious as a traumatic experience. As much as you gain from talking to your loved ones about these experiences, you’re curious about what it could be like to have a space that is distinctly for you.

+ My Specialties

We all need a soft place to land; somewhere we can be nurtured to develop intuitive insight. Whether that be physically or metaphorically; in my downtown Detroit office or through online counseling, trust is built with compassion and honesty. It’s important that my clients know I will meet them with authenticity, honesty, and kindness in our counseling work together.

A few of my specialties therapy for relationship and dating issues, online counseling, gender therapy, racial identity issues, and body image concerns. I also specialize in providing therapy to high profile clients who value privacy and discretion. I work with people who are single, partnered, or have recently gone through a breakup or divorce. Even though we work together in individual counseling, there is often a common thread among my clients that they want to heal past relationship wounds and better understand how they show up in relationships. My clients live in the Metro Detroit area or anywhere in the states of Michigan and Pennsylvania.
